Paintball Sports

Paintball is a competitive game where players shoot at each other with compressed air guns known as markers. These markers shoot paintballs which are marble sized gelatin capsules filled with polyethylene glycol paint which gives the sport the name paintball.

Paintball is played outdoors or indoors depending on what type of game is being played. Since paintball is becoming extremely popular the number of playing fields is increasing. You can find many indoor and outdoor paintballs arenas located around the world. There are actually sites on the Internet which have databases of different paintball arenas as well as maps and layouts of these arenas.

There are as many variations of paintball games as there are arenas. The earliest variation of the sport was called “The national Survival Game” and was played as an everyman for himself type game. As paintball has evolved so have the variations. The most popular variation of the sport is the game “Capture the Flag” similar to the classic childhood game but played with paintball guns. In this game opposing teams try to capture the other team’s flag while protecting their own. The team who gets the other teams flag first is victorious. If all the other team’s players are eliminated by being shot then you gain victory. Center flag is similar to “Capture the Flag” except a single flag is used vice two flags. The team that brings the flag to the opponent’s base wins.

Another game played in the sport is “Elimination” in which the team who eliminates all the members of the opposing team wins the game. This game can be played with more than two teams and can also be played in a tournament style. The “Resurrection” style of “Elimination” allows the players to be resurrected if they return to the team’s base camp.

An extreme type of paintball game is called “Crazy” or “Just Plain Crazy” and can be played as an individual or team style of play. In this game everyone lines up face to face in the middle of the arena or field and on signal they just start going at each other until the person runs out of paintballs, carbon dioxide, or just gives up because of pain. As you can see this is a violent type of paintball and is discouraged because of chance of injury.
